"The association’s president, Virginia Dominguez of the University of Illinois, said in an e-mail that the word had been dropped because the board sought to include anthropologists who do not locate their work within the sciences, as well as those who do." This is ridiculous. Removing science marginalizes the scientists, not the rest of the association. Anthropology includes social science and physical science. It’s a sad state of affairs that a major social science organization won’t recognize itself as such and it speaks badly of the members that they don’t understand what social science is. If anthropology isn’t a science, then why have it at all, just have biology for the physical science, sociology for the social science, and politics for the rest.
